Certified Alcohol and Drug Addiction Consultant V (CADAC V) is a clinical addiction credential recognized by the Indiana Division of Mental Health & Addiction. 

Requirements to earn your CADAC V credential

Education & Training

Persons seeking the CADAC V must hold and maintain a Master’s level license recognized by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA) Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board.

  • 40 hours of education specific to the CADAC skills domains
  • 6 hours of HIV/AIDS education/training in addition to 40 hours of addiction treatment education/training
  • 6 hours of addiction counseling ethics education/training in addition to 40 hours of addiction treatment education/training
  • 6 hours in cultural competency

Skills Domains

Domain I: Scientific Principles of Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorders
Domain II: Evidence-Based Screening and Assessment
Domain III: Evidence-Based Treatment, Counseling, and Referral
Domain IV: Professional, Ethical, and Legal Responsibilities

Examination
Code of Ethics
  • The applicant must sign, and agree to abide by the ICAADA Certified Alcohol and Drug Addiction Consultant (CADAC) Code of Ethics 
Residency
  • Candidate must live or work in Indiana at least 51% of the time
Recertification
  • 40 clock-hours of CADAC domain specific education and/or training during the period of certification. Including 6 clock-hours in Addiction Counseling Ethics education and 6 clock-hours in Cultural Competency education.
