Certified Recovery Coach-Associates (CRC-A)
ICAADA Certified Recovery Coach-Associates (CRC-A) is an introductory level credential for allies who do not have personal, lived experience of recovery from substance use, mental health, or co-occurring disorders. This credential is for those who wish to provide recovery support to those seeking/in recovery from substance use and/or mental health concerns. This recovery support credential is recognized by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development as Promoted Industry Certifications.
CRC Requirements
Pre-requisite:
- Candidate must live in or work in Indiana 51% of the time
- Candidate must have a minimum of high school diploma or equivalent (HSE/GED)
- Candidate must be an ally of people seeking and/or in recovery (persons in personal recovery and/or family members of someone seeking and/or in recovery from substance use, mental health, and/or co-occurring disorders are not eligible for this credential)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Education and Training:
- Minimum 35 hours of recovery support fundamentals specific education
- MHAI SWD Training Institute 5-day Recovery Support Fundamentals training OR CCAR Recovery Coach Academy training completed prior to July 1st, 2024, are the only courses accepted
- 16 hours of recovery support ethical responsibility specific education
- MHAI SWD Training Institute 2-day Recovery Support Ethics is the only course accepted
CRC-A Skills Domains:
- Domain I: Advocacy
- Domain II: Ethical Responsibility
- Domain III: Mentoring and Education
- Domain IV: Recovery/Wellness Support
- Domain V: Harm Reduction
Register for your CRC-A credential
Applications should NOT BE started until all pre-requisites and required training(s) are met/completed. If you start an application prior to completing this, it will be deleted. Please note you will have six (6) months from loading the application to complete. If it is not completed within six (6) months of starting, the application will be deleted, and you will need to reload it in and start from the beginning.

Code of Ethics:
- The candidate must sign, and agree to abide by the ICAADA Certified Recovery Coach (CRC) Code of Ethics
Examination:
- Candidate must pass the IC&RC Peer Recovery Exam
- Remote and in-person examinations are available. When considering remote examinations, please ensure you have reviewed system requirements and other obligations that must be adhered to for success in the remote examination completion. Initial Application Fees:
- Membership: $125
- Exam: Member – $150 | Non-member – $300
- Certification: Member – $100 | Non-member – $200
Recertification:
- The ICAADA CRC-A is valid for two (2) years from the date of issuance and is non-renewable. Candidates are expected to obtain the ICAADA Certified Recovery Coach (CRC) credential during the two (2) years of the CRC-A credential validity.
Recertification Fees:
- None (The CRC-A is only valid for two (2) years from date of issuance and is non-renewable through ICAADA)
