CARC

ICAADA Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) is a credential for family members, allies, loved ones or others who do not have personal, lived experience of recovery from substance use, mental health or co-occurring disorders. This credential is for those who wish to provide support to those seeking/in recovery from substance use issues.

Requirements to earn your CARC credential

Pre-requisite
  • Allies, friends and/or loved ones of person seeking and/or in recovery (persons in personal recovery are not eligible for this credential)
Previous Education
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
Training & Education
  • 30 hours of recovery support training (CCAR Recovery Coach Academy is the only curriculum accepted for this education requirement)
  • 16 hours of Peer Recovery Ethics training (MHAI SWD Training Institute 2-day Peer Recovery Ethics is the only course accepted for this education requirement)

  • The applicant must sign, and agree to abide by the ICAADA Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) Code of Ethics.

Residency
  • Candidate must live or work in Indiana at least 51% of the time
Recertification
  • 40 hours of recovery coach domain specific education during the period of certification (2 years), Including 6 clock-hours in Peer recovery Ethics education and 6 clock-hours in Cultural Competency education
