CRC II
ICAADA Certified Recovery Coach II (CRC II) is an experienced level credential for family members, allies, loved ones or others who do not have personal, lived experience of recovery from substance use, mental health or co-occurring disorders. This credential is for those who wish to provide recovery support to those seeking/in recovery from substance use and/or mental health concerns.
CARC II Requirements
Pre-requisite:
- Candidate must live in or work in Indiana 51% of the time
- Candidate must have a minimum of high school diploma or equivalent (HSE/GED)
- Candidate must be an ally, friend and/or loved one of persons seeking and/or in recovery (persons in personal recovery are not eligible for this credential)
Education and Training:
- Minimum 35 hours of recovery support fundamentals specific education
- MHAI SWD Training Institute 5-day Recovery Support Fundamentals training OR CCAR Recovery Coach Academy training completed prior to July 1st, 2024, are the only courses accepted
- 16 hours of recovery support ethical responsibility specific education
- MHAI SWD Training Institute 2-day Recovery Support Ethics is the only course accepted
- 6 hours of HIV/AIDS specific education
- 8 hours of education in the CPRC skills domains: Advocacy, Ethical Responsibility, Mentoring and Education, Recovery/Wellness Support.

Register for your CRC II credential
Applications should NOT BE started until all pre-requisites and required training(s) are met/completed. If you start an application prior to completing this, it will be deleted. Please note you will have six (6) months from loading the application to complete. If it is not completed within six (6) months of starting, the application will be deleted, and you will need to reload it in and start from the beginning.

CRC Skills Domains:

Professional Experience:
- 500 hours of professional recovery support (volunteer or paid) and 25 hours of direct supervision specific to the CRC Skills Domains. Please click here for examples of hours that will count as peer support experience.
- Supervision for a Recovery Coach may be performed by one of the certifications/licenses outlined below:
- A licensed behavioral health professional currently practicing in the state of Indiana (LAC, LCAC, LBSW, LSW, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, HSPP, or Psychiatrist)
- CADAC II or higher through ICAADA
- ICADC or ICAADC through IC&RC
- NCAC II or MAC through NAADAC
- CSPR-CL through ICAADA
- CSPR-PR through ICAADA
Code of Ethics:
- The candidate must sign, and agree to abide by the ICAADA Certified Recovery Coach II (CRC II) Code of Ethics
Examination:
- Candidate must pass the IC&RC Peer Recovery Exam
- Remote and in-person examinations are available. When considering remote examinations, please ensure you have reviewed system requirements and other obligations that must be adhered to for success in the remote examination completion. Initial Application Fees:
- Membership: $125
- Exam: Member – $150 | Non-member – $300
- Certification: Member – $100 | Non-member – $200
Recertification:
- The ICAADA CRC II is renewable every two (2) years from the date of issuance. To renew candidates much obtain 40 hours of recovery support specific education every two (2) years, including 6 clock-hours in recovery support (or non-clinical) ethics.

- Certification Renewal Fee: Member – $100 | Non-member – $200
