ICAADA Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship

puzzle pieces connecting apprenticeship, practicing, working, training and learning

ICAADA, in partnership with Mental Health America of Indiana (MHAI) Stanley W. DeKemper Training Institute and Indiana Association of Peer Recovery Support Services (IAPRSS) have built Indiana’s recovery coach infrastructure through a redeveloped apprenticeship learning program that includes three components.

Professional recovery support curriculum:

Mental Health America of Indiana’s (MHAI) Stanley W. DeKemper (SWD) Training Institute offers a state-approved education track that educates the participant(s) on the various fundamental skills needed to provide recovery support. Multiple recovery coach credentials offered through ICAADA are recognized by the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development as  Industry Promoted Certifications. The CPRC-A and CPRC credential are billable options through Indiana Medicaid, Indiana Recovery Works, and Indiana Problem Gambler Awareness Program.

On-the-job learning options

-CPRC-A credential holders build their skills through a minimum of a 2000 hour apprenticeship program through supervised work distributed among the stages of supervision described including shadowing, mentoring, and independent service delivery.

– The Department of Labor (DOL) registered Apprenticeship is paid by the hosting organization. For recovery coaches completing the DOL registered Apprenticeship, the experience begins on the first day of coursework required for the certification. The apprenticeship can be completed over 12 months and includes the on-the-job training and related instruction.

Supervisor education, collaboration, and support:

Supervisors collaborate to strengthen access to competent, effective, and ethical recovery support supervision.
