ICAADA Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) is a credential for prevention professionals recognized by the International Credentialing and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) and IC&RC affiliated states and countries that offer the IC&RC CPS credential.

Requirements to earn your CPS credential

  • Professional experience
    • 2,000 clock hours of supervised experience specific to the CPS Domains listed below
  • Education
    • 100 hours of education or training specific to the domains are required; of those, 50 hours must be alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) specific training
    • Six hours of prevention ethics training and six hours of HIV/STI training must be included
  • Supervision
    • 120 hours, at least 10 hours in each of the CPS domains
  • Examination
  • Code of ethics
    • Applicants must sign the ICAADA peer recovery code of ethics statement affirming that the applicant has read and will abide by the code of ethics
  • Recertification
    • 40 hours of related continuing education earned every two years, including six hours of prevention ethics and six hours of HIV/STI training
  • Geographic location
    • You must live or work at least 51-percent of the time in Indiana

CPS online registration

Applicants for the CPS credential must demonstrate applicable education or employment as well as pass the IC&RC CPS examination.

Once the IC&RC exam is passed and your submitted application packet is complete, your CPS certificate will be issued within 60 days.
