ICAADA Certified Addiction and Drug Abuse Consultant IV (CADAC IV) is a clinical credential recognized by the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction and by the International Credentialing and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) and IC&RC affiliated states and countries which offer the IC&RC Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ADC) credential.

Requirements to earn your CADAC IV credential

  • Professional experience
    • 6,000 clock hours of supervised addiction counseling experience
    • Up to 1,000 hours may be waived if the applicant has a minimum of three years of experience in a recovery support program (AA, NA, AL-ANON, Celebrate Recovery, etc.)
  • Education
    • Masters level degree in human services area from an accredited college or university
    • At least six hours of specialized training in HIV/AIDS
    • At least six hours of Counseling Ethics training
    • 320 clock hours of formal education or training in addictions with a minimum of 90 clock hours in alcohol and drug treatment
    • 300 clock hours of an approved, supervised practicum in addictions specifically alcohol and drug counseling functions
  • Examination
  • Code of ethics
    • Applicants must sign the ICAADA peer recovery code of ethics statement affirming that the applicant has read and will abide by the code of ethics
  • Recertification
    • 40 hours of related continuing education earned every two years, including six hours of ethics and six hours of HIV/STI training
  • Geographic location
    • Employed or residing in Indiana 51% of the time

Applications for the CADAC IV credential must demonstrate applicable education or employment as well as pass the IC&RC counselor examination.

Once you submitted CADAC IV application and packet is complete, your CADAC IV certificate will be issued within 60 days.
